First of all, a Happy New Year to all our readers. We hope that 2019 will be healthy and prosperous – in that order!<\/p>\n

Refreshed Luxury<\/h2>\n

Well, it’s been a while since my last update to the Journal – we took our winter break in the lovely warm climate of Thailand. However, while we were busy enjoying ourselves our decorators were busy re-decorating The Somerville and Garden Suites.<\/p>\n

For The Somerville Suite we have gone for a rather decadent look mixed with a touch of the Gatsby thrown in. And please don\u2019t ask me how much the gold paint cost … that was a case of falling in love with it without looking at the price. Hey ho. We hope you like the finished result as much as we do.<\/p>\n

As for The Garden Suite, we have maintained the existing very light look, not least because it’s at the back of the building. So, keeping a generally bright feel in mind, we have added new lighting and Art Deco ceiling moulds, and we’ve opted for some geometric Art Deco wallpaper. We have to say we’re very pleased with the changes – relatively simple but effective. <\/p>\n

Refreshing Walks<\/h2>\n

During the quieter times we have also tried out two more coastal path walks . On 23rd December we took the bus to Shaldon and got off at The Ness pub with its lovely views over the fast flowing River Teign. From there we walked or, rather, climbed the South West Coastal path back to Torquay. That is a rather tough 11 miles of very steep ascents and declines. It has to be said this particular walk is not for those that are wanting a quick walk after one of our wonderful breakfasts – but if you are a serious walker it’s worth it as the views are outstanding.<\/p>\n

Slightly further afield, we’ve also tried out a circular route on the other side of the Kingsbridge Estuary, from Salcombe at East Portlemouth. The route takes you along the SW Coastal path to Gara Rock, where you can stop for refreshments and a sandwich. From there it’s then through the woods with some amazing old lime trees before arriving back at Mill Beach. This walk is approximately five miles long. If you fancy taking in some retail therapy afterwards you can leave the car at the start point and take the ferryboat across the river to Salcombe – it’s just \u00a31.50 each way.<\/p>\n

And I think that’s about it for this update. Don’t forget to call to take up the offer of the two new suites. Also, do keep in mind that Easter is nearly fully booked, and the Torbay Airshow<\/strong><\/a> (1st and 2nd June) is already 50% booked. It must be said that the bay is perfect for seeing the airshow – recommended. <\/p>\n
