The Somerville

Our entrance is up four steps (17 Cms) with a handrail on both sides to the inner door. Our public areas - i.e. the breakfast room and reception/bar - are both on the ground floor.

We have a large flat car park with parking for ALL guests and reserved parking for disabled visitors (bay close to the building) can be pre-arranged during your stay.

If arriving by train, Torquay station is 1.5 miles away but we have a people carrier with room for fold-up wheelchairs to collect guests at no cost (prior notice required).

We have an inside area to charge mobility scooters plus rental of mobility scooters from a reputable company in Babbacombe who will deliver the scooter to us.

Wheelchair access via the back of the building is possible with prior notice and would require key entry. There is a public toilet on the ground floor again with no steps.

The building itself is over two floors: ground floor and first floor. There are 11 steps up to the first floor onto a landing then a further two steps. The stairs have a banister.

We have two rooms on the ground floor. The large Meadfoot Suite has walk-in shower facilities. The Junior Courtyard suite's walk-in shower has a tray which is four inches high from the tiled floor. Both shower trays have non-slip surfaces plus, if required, we have Stick and Stay grab handles which can be placed in the room with prior notice.

All of the upstairs bedrooms have walk-in showers and the Somerville Suite has a roll-top bath as well as a separate walk-in shower. Although the majority of our bathrooms have non-slip surfaces we also supply a rubber shower mat in each room.

All the corridors have excellent lighting with movement sensor lights, and they are all short-pile carpeted.

Each room has a silent fridge for which we supply bottled water - which can be handy for those with medication.

In the event of an emergency, we have a monitored fire alarm, and an emergency lighting system throughout the building.

We live on-site and are available in an emergency 24 hours a day via a bell indoors or via our mobile phone numbers.
