All About Us
Time flies! We, Peter and Helen, bought The Somerville back in 2016. It's very gratifying to be able to say that since then we have been able to build on the strong foundations we inherited.
Perhaps most notably, we have maintained our Five Star status from Visit England and we've gained a Gold Award for our breakfasts too. But of course, alongside any awards, that we have both regular customers and new guests makes our work here very satisfying.
That said, awards and satisfied customers wouldn't be possible without constant improvement. We are always looking at ways to make a stay with us ever more enjoyable. From the relatively simple tasks involved in keeping everything ship-shape to more major work such as complete room refurbishments (which we tackle when we're closed for our winter breaks), we believe our attention to high quality standards makes all the difference.
You could say our approach is ingrained! We have been in the hospitality business since we both met at catering college at the age of 17 - when Helen was studying to be a chef and Peter's focus was Hotel Management. Let's not dwell on the details - sufficient to say that's quite a while ago!
After several years working in the Berkshire/Oxfordshire area, including 17 years running our own pub/restaurant in Henley on Thames, we decided a change was needed. We found nowhere better to move to than the English Riviera and Torquay. We felt instantly at home - and we still do.
