Well, May Day came and went – and after a soggy Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, the afternoon turned in to a beautiful day on the Bay. This really is a gorgeous place to be.
The coming months see any number of local things to see and do. Perhaps the most dramatic will be the 2nd Torbay Airshow, on the 3rd-4th June. Torquay is a perfect spot to watch the Red Arrows, and there will be the magnificent sight of the Lancaster bomber with a Spitfire and Hurricane in support. And let’s not forget that they’re accompanied by the incredibly evocative sound of their Merlin engines.
You can find the full itinerary on the web site –
and at the time of writing we have two rooms left that weekend. Give me a call to book: 01803 294755.
Of course, the airshow’s not the only attraction! Helen and I love to find new spots to visit – for pleasure and to share with our guests. To that end, a recent visit to Bigbury-on-Sea on the South Devon coast was a revelation. We walked over to Burgh Island (as the tide was out) and wandered around the 25 acre Island with all its steep crevices and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended – and it’s only about a 45 minute drive from Torquay.
Regular readers will know that we couldn’t visit somewhere without sample some local food and drink while we were there – and a crab baguette and pint of cider at the Pilchard Inn went down very well.
But of course you don’t have to travel far for a good meal. We have a good number of local restaurants here in Torquay and what’s more I believe the standard of food is constantly improving.
John Burton Race has recently opened a restaurant at Torquay’s Grosvenor Hotel Brasserie and we also have the best local fish restaurant at No 7 Fish Bistro, just a short walk away. Paul, the owner, always looks after our guests and the view from the upstairs Wine Bar is perfect for the sun setting over Torquay harbour – perhaps while trying one of their ‘wine flights’.
So, if you’re keen to make the most of all that’s on offer here on the coast, we do still have some availability over the coming months. And I do love to talk to people! Rather than book online, give me a call – 01803 294755. We will do our best to accommodate you – even if we have a minimum 2/3 night stay in peak times, sometimes we’ll have a slot free for a one night stay.
Looking forward to speaking to you and seeing you soon.
