Wet, But Not Defeated!
Well, after the wettest February on record we have still managed to keep the Somerville clientele happy. And that was especially true over the Valentines weekend, when we had Storm Ciara. Yes, that did give us all a soaking, but thumbs-up to all our customers. We had no cancellations and in true British grit we weathered the storm. The photo, below, showing the very scary sea!
Walking When We Can
We always like to keep everyone updated with any of our recent walks along the South West coastal path. Towards the end of January we did a circular walk from Gara Rock to Salcombe – and it was on a sunny day too, is all too rare day in 2020 thus far. It’s a route that offers fantastic views and there’s excellent birdlife on the estuary.
And on another sunny day (yes, it seems impossible!) we drove over to Sidmouth after Storm Dennis and took in some lovely views of the wonderful red soil of South Devon.
It’s Not A Mystery
Relatives recently visited from Northern Ireland, and a visit to the National Trust’s Greenway House, the summer home of Agatha Christie, was a must. It’s recommended when you visit us too!
You can get to Greenway via car but car parking is limited and you MUST book a parking slot a day or two in advance.
Far more exciting, you can also travel by ferry from Dittisham or Dartmouth. Times and spaces vary over the course of the year.
There are full details on the NT’s own web site, for travelling by car, ferry, steam train, on foot or, indeed, by kayak or canoe!
The whole tour is self-guided but there are excellent staff to answer questions in every room. If you love the Art Deco period like us, you will love it, and that’s besides the outstanding gardens and views down the River Dart.
(For garden lovers, we should mention that there is a Camellia festival in the final week of March.)
In The Theatre
We are great fans of Ben Fogle. He seems a decent fellow and his tales of his travels round the world are very enjoyable. He’s stopping at the Princess Theatre here in Torquay on 29th March, with the focus on his story “Adventures in the Wilderness”.
And Finally
We should mention that at the time of writing we have just two rooms left over Easter. If you are interested, call us direct on 01803 294755.
And that’s about it for this update.
Hopefully, see you soon.
Peter and Helen.
