Well, it has to be said it certainly feels like it’s been the rainiest winter we’ve experienced down here in Devon. And as well as the ‘regular rain’, there were a couple of horrific storms which hit south Devon rather badly, causing some serious damage to the coast and its defences.

Gladly (fingers crossed) we are now moving in to a happier Spring, with daffodils out and everything starting to bud.
How Long!?
We are now able to share the happy news with you that, on the 10th March, we celebrated 10 years @ The Somerville. That old phrase ‘where does time go’ is certainly the case since we first opened the doors in 2016.

What’s That Out There?
Of course, living by the seaside has its highs as well as lows. During all the rain of January and February we encountered a couple of days of sea fog that were quite exceptional. The normally rather wonderful view from our breakfast room was somewhat obscured!

Enjoy The Local Area
We have a new, interesting tour guide in the Bay, a gentleman called Graham. He has different local tours, from Agatha Christie mile to a rather amusing one focussing on Fawlty Towers and the history involved with the Monty Python team. We thought they were really worth an afternoon if your interested in some local exploration, and very reasonably priced for two-three hours. Contact us for more details.

Up On The Moor
Away from Torbay, there are plenty of good walks around and about the area too. As you might know, we are both big coastal path walkers but occasionally we venture inland, and having Dartmoor on our doorstep is a real bonus. It really is worthy of a visit or a walk. There are many routes, from short two-milers to the ‘hardcore’ ones which are really secluded and away from humanity. If you’re keen, we can advise you on where to go and which pub to visit for lunch.
We think the best website for walk-inspiration is this one.

And Looking Ahead
Just a quickie: the delightful Katherine Jenkins, who actually lives in Henley-on-Thames (where we had our pub for 18 years), is performing for one night at the Princess Theatre here in Torquay on 21st October. Tickets are selling fast but there was still some availability at the time of writing.
And I think that’s it for this update. We look forward to you visiting!
