Firstly, Happy New Year – not least to all of our guests who stayed with us in 2017. We hope 2018 will be good for you all.
Keeping Up Appearances
Well, January has arrived and this is always the time to do the jobs that are simply impossible to tackle once the summer season starts. Painting, and re-grouting bathrooms both loom large, and our largest project is refurbishing Room 9’s bathroom. The tiles have been chosen are quite radical: Ted Baker Geo Tiles. We will be interested in what you think. It’s a bit of a brave decision but we think it will work well!
We have also re-upholstered the headboard and runner in Room 3, the Courtyard Suite, and again, we hope you like the changes we’ve made.
Naturally, an over-riding consideration with all this work is to tackle it without disturbing our guests. It might be the quieter time of year, but that does not mean we take our winter-time visitors for granted!
Looking Up
Looking ahead – and looking up: the Torbay Air show –
is on the 2nd & 3rd June this year. The reputation of the show is increasing and therefore the town’s accommodation will be 100% full. Already, at the time of writing, we only have three rooms left ourselves for that weekend. If you fancy seeing the Red Arrows or the Battle Of Britain flypast over the most beautiful backdrop of the Bay, do phone us directly for the best rates: 01803 294755.
A New Walk
And talking of the Bay, I have found a new favourite walk.
Now, it seems every walk I do is my favourite but over Christmas we walked from Coleton Fishacre, a National Trust property, to Kingswear, en route passing the Dartmouth estuary. Along the way there is a magnificent view of Dartmouth Castle, built to protect the town for centuries.
We have done this route twice now, always stopping half way for refreshments at the Steam Packet Inn. This – as an ex-publican – I’d describe as a proper pub, and it’s been in the same family for three generations. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Well, evenings are getting lighter and Easter is approaching, so do come and enjoy a break staying at the Somerville – fuelled in the morning by Helen’s gold awarded breakfast. Indeed, for the health conscious Helen has been making breakfast desserts of chia seeds soaked in apple juice, and coconut yoghurt topped with bananas or blackberries. Me? I think I’ll stick to our thick cut back bacon sandwich on Shaldon Bread!
Looking forward to the coming year. We hope to see you soon.
Peter – and Helen too!
