Well, since our regular winter closure began we’ve been, no, not on holiday but really busy, with some exciting changes to the Somerville.
Boring But …
First up, some rather boring expenditure was replacing our old and tired kitchen floor. Boring, but of course hygiene is crucially important to us. It was a job that could only be done when we were closed. Cue some logistical nightmares as it required a latex floor putting down first before the commercial floor. However, as I write it is all done and ready for re-opening on 28th December.
Looking Up
On a more exciting note I, Peter, had this rather extravagant idea of having a mural of the Sistine chapel on the ceiling of the reception/lounge area. However, this notion was not accepted by senior management (Helen) – and new inspiration was required. And voila! I came up with a marble effect ceiling with a real WOW factor. The decorators had to design high scaffold boards to lay on to put up the mural but, as I hope you agree, it really was worth the effort.
Something ‘Warmer’
The last of the winter re-decoration projects was the refurbishment of Room 12, the Garden Suite. We last did it just four years ago but we wanted a warmer atmosphere. And then we both rather fell in love with a rather expensive wallpaper by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and, as they say, the rest is history! As always, our theme of Art Deco shines through, and we think it definitely has a better ‘feel’ now.
And Finally …
Lastly for 2022, we would like to wish all of our customers a very happy and healthy Christmas. We hope to see you all in 2023, whether for a weekend break or longer.
