Well, four months since we re-opened after six months off due to the lockdown … and we are – quite literally – running at 100% occupancy. And we have been all summer. It’s been quite a whirl!
If we have a vacancy arise (due to track-and-trace related cancellations), the room is re-let within an hour. These are quite extraordinary times. That said, do keep an eye on your email for late availability. Plus, as I write, we do have some vacancies in October. You know the score – book now if you fancy any autumn break! (01803 294755)
Fancy A Game Of Golf?
Quite reasonably, time off has been a fairly rare for us over the last few months. (Not that we’re complaining.) It must be said that, as a result, my golf hasn’t improved of late. However, do remember that you can always join me (Peter) at Torquay Golf Club for a round. And that has the added advantage of enabling me to tell Helen that yes, it IS work to take a guest out to play golf!
A Beach Walk
We only have one new walk to mention with this update. If you’re up for a pretty steep climb down from Hillhead outside of Brixham to Man Sands you can find a pretty well deserted beach. And in these times this is something of a rarity. Enjoyable …. but this is not a walk for the faint hearted. When we say it’s quite a climb – well, we’re not exaggerating.
Honeymoon With Us
We’re pleased to be able to say we quite often receive bookings from bridal couples, looking for a honeymoon night in one of our three romantic suites. And the suite is often used in the morning of the wedding too, to dress the bride and her bridesmaids. These two photos show one such summer bride leaving The Somerville on ‘the day’.
A Hassle-Free Parking Bonus
It must be said, parking has become a major issue in Torquay lately because of the increase in ‘staycationers’. And to make things worse, neither the new Hilton opening at the bottom of our road nor the Travelodge opening in spring of next year have private car parks. (They are relying on parking overnight in council parking bays.) Hence, we are happier than ever to have our fabulous private car park to the rear of The Somerville. Guaranteed hassle free and included with every booking.
It’s Showtime!
We are delighted to be able to tell you that the Princess Theatre is now open again. They deserve everyone’s help in supporting them after such a long closure – even longer than we’ve had to endure. If you fancy going to a show when you are visiting, please check out the Theatre’s website.
Bright Lights (At Last)
Lastly for this update, there is now new promenade lighting around the whole Bay – and it looks fabulous after dark. Replacing the rather tired looking lights are ith computer controlled LEDs. Do make sure you look up and see then when you are walking back from your restaurant of an eve.
And that’s it for this September update. Until next time …
