With autumn now arrived – even if it is still remarkably mild here on the south coast – life here on the English Riviera changes too. It’s pleasantly laid-back – and the colours, of course, can be gorgeous. Recommended if you fancy a relaxing short break. Plenty of attractions are open until the end of October, and there’s a great selection of local restaurants open all year around.
Fit For The Best!
Of course, we’re bound to say that if you’re coming down to Torquay you should stay with us for five-star experience. But don’t just take our word for it.
We are delighted to report that we have been awarded Silver by English Riviera Tourism in the Best B&B category. The awards ceremony was just the other day and we were presented with our certificate by the travel writer and journalist Alison Rice. The judges on the night said we offered “A superior level of hospitality and service”. It’s really pleasing to hear a properly independent assessment.
We won’t pretend this kind of thing isn’t without its pressures though. We applied to be considered back in May. With the application accepted, you are told you’ll then receive an anonymous overnight stay from an inspector. That’s fine, but he or she will only announce themselves the next morning after breakfast – and even then will say nothing at all about what they think. It’s very unnerving!
Or Fit To Drop
Awards aside, I (Peter) am fit to drop … For reasons that now escape me, I’ve entered the Tour de Moor. For training I’ve found some lovely secluded rides on my mountain bike. I’m particularly enjoying riding over towards Kingswear, where there are some lovely trails with magnificent views across the River Dart as well as the Bay of Torbay. Wish me luck for next week – and fingers crossed it doesn’t rain.

We close on 14th November for our own annual holiday, to return to work on 27th December. (We will be posting photos of our travels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.) Over the break we will be refurbishing two rooms – watch this space for photos when they are finished.
