Staying and Eating
After the celebrations for Helens 50th birthday, we have found ourselves in a pleasantly busy spell of trade until the end of September, and the weekends are filling up fast for October too. We do find that in the out-of-season months we can generally accommodate couples coming down for a two-three day break, with guests often taking in some of the excellent restaurants within walking distance of the Somerville . (I have my favourites and I am very happy to help you choosing your restaurant or making a reservation for you – which can be especially important at weekends.)
Fishstock!
We recently spend the day at Fishstock in Brixham. it’s an annual weekend festival where the trawlermen of Brixham raise money for charities and sell a wonderful array of fresh fish. There are demonstrations on preparing fish, local crafts for sale, a good selection of bars selling local beers and ciders and lots of live music as well. In essence, it’s a proper Devon day out before the trip back on the ‘Western Lady’ ferry to Torquay. Recommended!
More Entertainment
And if Fishstock isn’t enough, last weekend we discovered a delightful walk starting at the delightful Broadsands Beach before then heading up (and I mean up -it’s not for the faint hearted), following the South West coastal path for a bit before following the signs to Churston Manor. (Where you can stop for a decent pint. As regular readers will know, most of my walks involve a beer stop !!) Very enjoyable.
For things to do in the heart of Torquay, we have the wonderful Elaine Page coming to the Princess Theatre on Thursday 12th October. As I write there are still tickets available, plus we are offering a one night stay in any of our suites for £100 for the event. Please contact us directly to book.
We also have Priscilla Queen of the Desert arriving at the Theatre for four days, 25-28th October. We’d call it a rather amusing West End production for the open minded! Alternatively, if you are looking for a bit of rock then the Illegal Eagles are playing on 1st November.
Don’t forget – whenever you’d like to visit, call us directly for our best rates: 01803 294 755.
Whatever you’d like to do for a break, hopefully we’ll see you soon.

PS: The photo gallery for this month, below, includes a rather dramatic rain storm out towards Brixham. Better to witness that one from afar!
