Well, after an amazing summer we’ve experienced an outstanding October. Of course, autumn’s showing its hand a little now, but certainly not in any dramatic way. We did think we might be slowing down a little now, bookings-wise, but that’s not been the case at all. And, no, that’s not a complaint!
Glorious Sunsets
One by-product of the good weather has been excellent sunsets. Some have been truly amazing – in particular if you’re looking over the bay. A good spot is standing on the top of Daddyhole Plain, which is only a 20 minute walk from the Somerville.
Further Afield
Just a relatively short drive away from the Somerville is Dartmoor and some of the walking there is very rewarding. These pictures, below, are in the Haytor area (a favourite). From there it was on to the pretty village of Widecombe on the Moor. And if you fancy a pint as a reward for your walking, we enjoyed the Rugglestone Inn – which is what we (as ex-publicans) would call a proper pub.
Worthwhile Effort
Walking is one thing, but cycling for charity really makes effort feel worthwhile! I (Peter) recently completed the “Tour de Moor” – a 60 kilometres route over Dartmoor. It was great fun, with an enormous climb on some tough terrain up to Princetown to really test us all. Apart from raising funds for charity, as a reward to ourselves we celebrated at the finish with an enormous bacon butty. Superb. I’m aiming to enter again next year – if you’d like to join me, you’d be very welcome.
Continual Improvement
At the end of November we will be taking our annual holiday. But don’t think nothing’s happening here while we’re away. We will have decorators in refurbishing two of the suites. We really do believe in looking after the Somerville. Keeping it up to the standard we feel our guests deserve is an ongoing commitment. We hope you’ll like the finished result when you next stay with us.
